The Journal of Venous Disease Expert Opinion Consensus on Lymphedema Diagnosis and Treatment

A panel of experts from the American Venous Forum (AVF), American Vein and Lymphatic Society (AVLS) and the Society for Vascular Medicine (SVM) use the Delphi methodology to assess opinions on lymphedema treatment and diagnosis.

The panel reached consensus that:

  • All patients with chronic venous insufficiency should be considered as lymphedema patients
  • Regular use of compression garments reduces progression of lymphedema
  • Pneumatic compression should be recommended for lymphedema patients
