Applied Wound Care in Lymphedema Management: Clinical Case Series

This course will provide attendees with practical application of wound care in the setting of lymphedema (LE) management. The course applies a holistic, comprehensive, and standardized approach that ensures LE remains a primary consideration in wound evaluation and care planning. Attendees will learn to apply this structured approach through case studies that highlight various wound etiologies and dermatologic changes that are commonly encountered in the clinic. Included is an overview of comprehensive LE and wound care, including the use of pneumatic compression devices for ongoing long-term home management.
Course Objectives:
1. Describe the TIMERS framework and its relevance to clinical decision making for wound assessment and management.
2. Explain the functions of the skin and lymphatic system as they relate to tissue health, wound development, and LE management.
3. Apply the TIMERS framework to perform a structured, LE informed wound assessment.
4. Apply evidence based wound management strategies.
5. Describe appropriate wound care and compression options, including the clinical use and application of pneumatic compression.
